Simbioza School
We believe that digital society must be inclusive for all generations. That is why our principal activities are based on empowering people with digital literacy through intergenerational cooperation. We combine the energy of the youth with the experiences of the elder to prepare both target groups for a digital future.
Abstract
Simbioza School is a project of sustainable collaboration between generations within local communities to promote e-literacy established in 2014. Local schools that have capacities, infrastructure and interest to include informal learning, as well as strengthening social values, represent the perfect bridge between sustainable Simbioza activities and social inclusion of the local senior and youth community.
The main objective of Simbioza School is to promote an inclusive digital society and active participation of youth. Seniors learn about modern technology, but youth gains experiences on functional learning, recognizing the applied use of e-literacy and ICT tools and at the same time get understand the importance of societal values. This initiative is not only about intergenerational dialogue, but also about encouraging creative thinking, self-initiation and raising responsible youth in a new school environment.
The project Simbioza School is based on computer workshops, where young participants – pupils (aged from 10 to 19), teach seniors (60+) the basics of computers and the internet free of charge. Schools already have the existing infrastructure (computer classrooms) and the desire to promote additional informal education within their local environments, and the seniors have a possibility to participate in a world of modern technology, preventing social exclusion and loneliness. Simbioza offers support to schools with the curricula, which are developed by a young team of professionals with special methodology and approach.
